Nancy Drew Treat: Secret of the Oaxacan Cookie Hands

Hello! I'm back with some new ND recipes to share with the blog! I hope you enjoy another delicious treat starting with what *i* would consider the herinteractive rennaisance. Maybe I'm biased becuase this was my first game I ever played, but this was definitely one of the big stars. And fun fact this was the first Nancy Drew Book I ever read! I hope you enjoy! Semper Ubi Sububi!

disclaimer when my sister made this for me she had no intention of sharing this publicly so she didn’t bother to write down her sources which is completely valid. I will do my best to try to back search some of these recipes but there’s a good chance I won’t be able to find the original sources.

Secret of the Oaxacan Cookie Hands

In case you can’t remember, watch out for stale cookies!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1⁄2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1⁄4 tsp cinnamon (feel free to double this)
  • 3⁄4 teaspoon cayenne (double it for better taste)
  • 10 tablespoons (1 1⁄4 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1⁄2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 bag of marshmallows or a jar of marshmallow fluff

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and cayenne. In a second bowl (medium or small), mix the eggs with the vanilla.
  2. Melt down your chocolate in a heat-safe bowl using a double boiler system.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix your softened butter with the sugars, then add the egg mixture and the melted chocolate. Lastly, add the flour mixture in small portions, mixing after each addition.
  4. Set your dough aside to cool until it reaches room temperature. It helps to cover the bowl with plastic wrap to keep the dough from drying out.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  6. Scoop out and form balls about 1 inch in diameter onto two wax or parchment-covered cookie sheets. This will make around 42 cookies.
  7. Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 12 minutes, switching the sheets on the racks halfway through. Take out the cookies and let cool for at least 10 minutes.
  8. Next, melt your marshmallow fluff or marshmallows with a splash of water in the microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring after each round, until the marshmallows are completely smooth without any lumps.
  9. Match up your cookies with a similar sized cookie for making the sandwiches. Use a spatula to spread on a small amount of marshmallow and then sandwich your cookies.
